Lycopene is the red colour in tomatoes and is also found in pink grapefruit, watermelon and guava. Worldwide research has shown lycopene to be one of the most powerful antioxidants.

Research indicates that high levels of lycopene in the body may lead to a much lower risk of serious disease, including heart disease and prostate cancer (especially).

Unfortunately, our body cannot absorb lycopene efficiently  from unprocessed tomatoes. Some processed tomato products are good sources of lycopene, such as tomato ketchup, tomato puree and even grilled tomatoes.
